Story of Teffilin - Rabbi Edelman ob"m

Story of Teffilin - Rabbi Edelman ob"m

From: Tule Lein

A fellow in Milwaukee began his Jewish journey approx. 40 years ago in Springfield. Rabbi Edelman ob"m gave him his first pair of teffilin.
Last week, he flew to Springfield to be menchem avel. He shared with me the following:
During my stopover in Atlanta, a guy with a ponytail comes up to me in the airport and says in yiddish "vos machstu"? I immediately asked him if he was Jewish. When he said yes, we put on teffilin.
Afterwards he asks me why I'm going to Springfield. So I explained that Rabbi Edelman passed away and I'm going to the Shiva.
He says "wow, I learned in LYA back in the day and Mrs. Ester kosofsky was my teacher. I'm going to visit my parents". So I convinced him to come for shacharis.
Sure enough he showed up to shachris with his father.
Afterwards I put him in touch with my daughter and son in law who live in Atlanta.
This morning, he texted me a photo of his recently dug up tallis and teffilin, saying that he's inspired to to them daily in memory of Rabbi Edelman.
May his neshama have an aliya and may his legacy continue to inspire.
